Terms of Service – Chesslock

Welcome to Chesslock, an iOS app designed and developed by Patricio Guzman, an individual developer based in France. By using the Chesslock app, you agree to the following Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Overview

Chesslock helps you stay focused by allowing you to block selected apps and unlock breaks by solving chess puzzles. These puzzles are sourced from Lichess.org. The app includes both free and premium features available through a subscription.

2. Eligibility

Chesslock is intended for general use. You must be of legal age in your jurisdiction to use subscription-based features.

3. Subscriptions & Billing

3.1 Subscription Options:

• Monthly subscription with a 3-day free trial
• Yearly subscription with a 1-week free trial

Subscriptions are managed and billed through Apple’s App Store. You can cancel or manage your subscription in your Apple account settings.

3.2 Free vs Pro Features:

• Free Users: One focus session per day; default puzzle difficulty
• Pro Users: Unlimited focus sessions; choose puzzle difficulty

No refunds are issued for unused time after cancellation.

4. Analytics & Data Usage

4.1 Analytics:

Chesslock uses Mixpanel to understand how users interact with the app. These analytics are anonymized and cannot be linked to specific individuals.

4.2 Apple Diagnostics:

We use Apple’s built-in crash reports and diagnostics to debug and improve app performance. This data is not associated with any identifiable user.

5. Data Collection & Privacy

• Chesslock does not collect personal data.
• You do not need to create an account to use the app.
• App preferences and usage settings are stored locally on your device.
• No data is uploaded or shared with third parties.

6. Puzzle Content

Puzzles are retrieved from Lichess.org and are subject to their own terms of use. Chesslock is not affiliated with or endorsed by Lichess.

7. App Functionality

Chesslock uses Apple’s Screen Time and DeviceActivity APIs to block selected apps during a focus session. You can manually choose which apps to block.

8. Limitation of Liability

Chesslock is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. You agree that Patricio Guzman is not liable for any damages arising from your use of the app.

9. Subscription Availability

Subscriptions are available only via the App Store. All billing and renewal is handled by Apple, and subject to the App Store's own terms and conditions.

10. Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of France. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of France.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes within the app or via the App Store.
